Why is OUR universe so LOGICAL?

Chintu: Universe is so kind to be following mathematical rules.

Mantu: Yeah

Chintu: But why is the universe so logical?

As always our hero Chintu has once again asked something. Now you can understand why the title is a question.

But first, what do we mean by logic? It has to do with patterns. When among a set of events we find some links or some pattern, we call the sequence of events logical. These are the patterns that we have represented in the form of mathematical equations and named them as laws of nature. So our question is, why does the universe follow laws? And even if it follows laws, why are they not changing rapidly with time for us to notice?

We would try to answer this using the anthropic principle. In our known universe the laws of nature have been constant for a long period of time, For example, Newton's Law of gravity was, is, and will be the same for a long time. The same can be said about other laws too. Now imagine the laws start changing every day. What will happen to the universe?

For starters, we living beings won't get enough time to restructure and adapt to the new laws. Each set of laws will have a unique structure for life and each structure takes some time to arrive. For example, we have taken around 3.7 billion years to reach this stage with our known laws of nature, If the laws themselves would have changed midway, say at 2 billion years then life wouldn't have got enough time to adapt and evolve into a conscious being who would ask elegantly like Chintu is. Each set of laws require a certain time for the evolution of life into a conscious state. If small changes appear then life may adapt itself, but if a large change occurs then chances are pretty low.

There are maybe billions of universes out there each with its own set of laws. There are maybe universes within them where the laws themselves change every second, and in those universes chances of occurrences of conscious being is low. Because we exist, we are certain that our universe is not one of them.

So in a nutshell, we don't know why our universe is logical, but in other cases also we would have asked that. All we can say is there are probably many universes out there and that makes up all imaginable ways sets of laws can be. We evolved in the one that supported evolution, the one where laws of nature were constant for a significant amount of time for the life to life to evolve into a conscious state.

Chintu: Hmm, I am not convinced with the answer. It kinda looks like a circle. The universe is logical as we are here and we are here as the universe is logical.

Mantu: Don't worry, you will get hang of it in time.

I guess you also agree with Chintu. There is a reason why he is the Hero.
